They've Got That Swing

Chameleon earns coveted Essentially Ellington spot.
They’re off to the House of Swing!

Chameleon, NA's premier jazz band, is one of just 15 finalists in the 20th Annual Essentially Ellington Competition and Festival. This year, over 100 high school jazz bands, representing programs across the country, entered the competition by submitting a recorded performance of three Duke Ellington compositions.

The entries were evaluated in a blind screening by jazz education experts and 15 finalists were selected from high schools, arts/magnets schools and specialized jazz programs.

The competition will take place from May 7-9 at “The House of Swing,” Frederick P. Rose Hall, home of Jazz at Lincoln Center.

About Essentially Ellington
Held each May, the Competition & Festival is the culmination of the yearlong Essentially Ellington program, during which participating bands are invited to submit a recording and 15 finalists are selected through a rigorous screening process. Each finalist band receives an in-school workshop led by a professional musician before coming to New York to put up their “Dukes” and perform before Wynton Marsalis and a panel of esteemed judges.
