• What is the process to secure busing?

  Late Feb - Families will receive an email with the Application for Transportation for the 2025-26 school year.
  
  April 15 - Deadline to submit the Application for Transportation. 
  

  
  May 1 - Belair will publish the proposed routes. Belair reserves the right to adjust the route pick-up and drop-off times by up to 20 minutes in each direction (earlier or later). If the times are adjusted by more than 20 minutes, families will have the option to withdraw from the service and receive a refund.
  
  May 15 - Deadline to submit the Transportation Services Agreement (final contract) and full payment. 

   

• At what time do buses leave campus in the afternoon?

  Buses depart Newark Academy at 3:45 p.m. Monday through Thursday and at 3:30 p.m. on Fridays. 

• What towns are serviced during the current year?

  For the current school year, Belair provides transportation to Newark Academy students in the following towns.***

  Bernardsville	Kearny	Nutley
  Chatham	Livingston	Orange
  East Orange	Maplewood	Short Hills
  Elizabeth	Mendham	Summit
  Far Hills	Millburn	Union
  Glen Ridge	Montclair	Verona
  Hoboken	Morristown	Westfield
  Irvington	Mountainside	West Orange
  ***The service to these, and any additional towns, is subject to demand and viability of the route.

• Is transportation guaranteed for all students?

  Routes cannot be guaranteed unless a minimum number of riders commit to bus service by submitting the Transportation Services Agreement (final contract) and full payment by May 15.

• Is there a late bus?

  If demand warrants, Belair may arrange for a late bus to transport students who remain on campus past the regular departure time. This service utilizes centralized drop-off locations. Late buses depart campus at 6:15 p.m.
  
  If your route is eligible for a late bus, it will be announced on May 1. An additional fee will be added to your balance, which is due on May 15.

• When is the deadline to sign up for busing?

  The last day to apply for Belair’s transportation services is April 15. Families may request service at a later date but will have to meet the bus at one of the confirmed stops. Door-to-door service will not be an option past the April 15 deadline.

• What are Belair Transport's rates for the 2024-25 school year?

  Most routes with door-to-door service (if demand warrants, late bus fee would be additional)	$5,950-$6,500 Round-trip $4,650-$5,200 One-way

  *If necessary to maintain viability, routes may be converted to centralized stops.

• What if I receive financial aid?

  Newark Academy provides proportional aid for transportation. NA will send an individual communication to financial aid recipients detailing this process.

• Is there reimbursement for transportation?

  As a NJ taxpayer, you can request a transportation reimbursement (up to $1,165) if your resident school district is not providing your child with free transportation to Newark Academy.
  
  This reimbursement is available to the majority of NA families whose child lives 2.5 - 20.9 miles from school AND one of the following:
  

  • Takes private bus transportation to Newark Academy, or
  • Is driven to school by their parent/guardian or is a member of a carpool, or
  • Drives to school

  
  In order to receive this reimbursement, families must complete a Transportation Reimbursement (B6T) Form for each child and submit it to Newark Academy by the deadline set each year.  Instructions to complete the reimbursement application can be found here.

• Can I cancel busing service once enrolled?

  Families who choose to cancel their busing service after May 15 will be subject to a cancellation fee. Families who cancel after the start of the school year will not be eligible for a refund.
