We are delighted to welcome rising Kindergarten students to our Junior Jump Start class.

Just as it is important to prepare students for first and second grade, it is equally critical to establish an academic framework for students entering the exciting world of Kindergarten.

Our Junior Jump Start program  helps students develop an understanding of key reading and math concepts, setting them on the path to school readiness and achievement. Our curriculum will primarily focus on the following concepts: Letters and sounds(early literacy), vowels, spelling and shapes, numbers, counting, sorting, graphing, adding and subtracting, phonemic awareness, time, money and measuring. Please note, students must be entering Kindergarten to enroll in this class.

The Junior Jump program also provides for electives, just like Jump Start 1 & 2! Our JJ's will engage in yoga, STEM and art weekly during the academic day. In addition to our academic and elective program, the curriculum provides for social emotional literacy.

It is critical that our Kindergartners get a "Jump" on emotional intelligence and honing basic social skills such as getting along with others, enjoying different personality types and fostering positive peer relationships.

We look forward to welcoming your child into our program!
  • Grade 1 - Jump Start

Full Session Dates and Tuition: June 23 - August 1, $2,800
    Session A Dates and Tuition: June 23 - July 11, $1,400
    Session B Dates and Tuition: July 14 - August 1, $1,400

This course is designed to maximize your child’s potential in preparation for first grade. Curriculum content will include building and enhancing reading skills, phonemic awareness, fluency, and decoding skills. Your child will build his/her skills in written expression through daily handwriting practice, sentence construction, proper grammar usage and the overall fundamentals of becoming an avid writer.

Reading fluency and comprehension are at the core of this grade level. Developing reading strategies to assist concepts of print and promote fluency and comprehension are the cornerstone of our reading series. Leveled readers and weekly reading inventories ensure that our students are challenged.

The comprehensive approach taken to teach both reading and writing ensures that our students become both readers and authors; promoting autonomy and independence as they engage in the complexities of the curriculum.

Mathematical concepts such as problem solving, operations, and number sense will be taught using hands-on manipulatives, while students work cooperatively on various activities. Additionally, the use of Cuisenaire rods and snap cubes will enhance your child’s number sense by making “numbers” come to life. "Real-Life" Math opportunities will be provided as students will "shop" the local book store and make change. Visual representation of Math is integrated in the form of pie and bar charts while the children make meaningful connections to their daily experiences.

Daily enrichment activities such as art, computers, physical education, and yoga / meditation will provide students with a dynamic, integrated learning experience.
The penultimate day of the program will include a “Celebration of Learning.” Both students and parents will participate in activities that highlight the six-week academic journey.

Please note: There will be no Lunch Bunch or Stay and Play on August 2.

This course is designed to prepare your child for the rigors and challenges of second grade. Students will be exposed to various genres of writing, as they learn the basics of story elements and characterization. Context clues and decoding skills will help your child become a more fluent and independent reader.

Our writing focus will be the creation of deep, meaningful sentences that take the form of interrogatives, statements, and exclamations with the goal of creating a descriptive piece of writing. Extensive vocabulary work and an integrated spelling program relevant to the stories will bring greater depth to these young writers as they become their own authors.

Mathematical concepts such as addition, subtraction and regrouping comprise our core curriculum. Multiplication using skip counting, division of single and double digit numbers and basic fractions are taught as well using counters, tangrams, and charts to clarify abstract concepts.

Additional skills such as basic money-sense, units of measure, and thermometer use are included as students master previous concepts; scaffolding of instruction is implemented as best practices of pedagogy and learning.
